A series of 19 painted steel strips each measuring 170 x 30mm advertising Reeves products. These strips were found inside the box for the elevator model and were attached to the forks on the elevator to attract attention at shows. Made at the Bratton Ironworks. The elevator came to museum as part of the Reeves collection. The signs were numbered as follows: 3) Please, 4) Ask for Lists, 5) Reeves, 6) Pig Troughs, 7) Distributors, 8) Water Carts, 9) Drills, 10) Brush Drills, 11) Lamb Creeps, 12) Ploughs, 13) Potato Mashers, 14) Sludge Carts, 15) Saw Benches, 16) Shepherd Huts, 17) Hoes, 18) Elevators, 19) Bean Sowers, 20) Sheep Racks, 21) Farm Carts

MERL Miscellaneous note, Greta Bertram, 10 March 2014 – The Reeves Collection was donated by R. & J. Reeves and Son Ltd. of Bratton Iron Works near Westbury, Wiltshire. The firm, which manufactured agricultural machinery, was well-established by 1849, and went into final receivership in 1970, when the Collection was donated to MERL. Bratton Iron Works was demolished in 1973. A detailed list of all of the objects in the Collection can be found in the accession file for 70/235. Records relating to the firm can be found in the MERL Archives, reference TR REE., MERL 'Handwritten accession' form (Institute of Agricultural History) – ‘Elevator, model // Harvesting // Reeves // Description: Model of an Advance elevator as made by Messrs Reeves. Its made of wood, iron and alluminium and can be operated by means of a battery. It is painted blue and red and has advertising cards with it. There were attachd to the forks on the elevator to attract attention at shows. The elevator is stored in a box. // Inscription on cards: Reeves Elevator, Wilts. This elevator was made at the Bratton Ironworks and replaced the earlier Andrew's model. Late c19th.’
