  • Description
    This is one of 214 duplicate 'gold' medals awarded to Ransomes, Sims and Jefferies between 1839 and 1889, and came from the company's Cape Town branch when the branch was closed. At the time of accession, the original medals were still in the possession of Ransomes. The original medal showed on the one side an inscription 'CAPE TOWN// 1877' and on the other side there is a wreathe and a crest with the inscription 'SOUTH AFRICAN INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION 1877'; this one-sided duplicate shows the inscription. The original dated from Cape Town Exhibition in 1877.
