    Box with accessories. Belonged to, Marjorie Ellen Bunting, born 1919. Worked as a seamstress in a hosiery factory in Bulwell, Nottingham.
    This is a tin box containing a number of accessories for a Singer sewing machine, including a set of needles and two bobbins with thread. The tin was originally used to contain Zubes lozenges. The writing on the top of the lid reads, 'SOOTHING and COMFORTING // COUGHS, COLDS, SORE THROATS & CATARRH // ZUBES // Approximate percentage of ingredients (w/w): Ol. Anis. 0.2, Ol. Menth. Pip. 0.13, Ol. Caryoph. 0.02, Menthol 0.3, Camph. 0.01, Bals. Tolu. 0.07, Benzoin 0.07, Tinct. Capsic. 0.02, Gingerin. 0.02. The aqueous extract of Marrub (1 in 15), Quassia. (1 in 48), Tussilag. Fol (1 in 60) 0.015, Sucros. et Glucos. Liq. ad 100. // MADE IN ENGLAND // BY // F. W. HAMPSHIRE & CO. LTD. DERBY'. Around the edge of the tin lid is the following: 'ZUBES . VACUUM PACKED . TO OPEN . INSERT COIN AND TWIST'. The tin is part of a donation of a Singer sewing machine and a number of accessories which belonged to the donor's mother, Marjorie Ellen Bunting, who was born in 1919 and received the machine for her 21st birthday. She used the sewing machine and accessories in her work as a seamstress in a very small hosiery factory in Bulwell, Nottingham. Her husband was a miner.
