  • Description
Paper wrapping for Simonds beer bottles. 'THE HOP LEAF, SIMONDS'. Found in Mrs Rose's house who worked in the laboratory of Simond's brewery.
This is one of four paper wrappings for Simonds beer bottles. It is stamped in red with the hop leaf logo, across which is written, 'TRADE MARK' and below which is written, 'THE HOP LEAF // SIMONDS // MILK // BRAND // STOUT'. The wrappings were found by the donor, Mr R. W. Metcalfe, in his mother-in-law, Mrs Violet Rose's, house. Mrs Rose had worked in the laboratory of Simond's brewery. Mr Metcalfe had also worked for the brewery, leaving in 1989 after 27 years. The wrappers may have been used for smaller 'nip' bottles of beer for export.
