  • Description
This metal fire insurance plaque was used as a sign for an insurance company, placed on the front of houses indicating they were insured against fire. It is inscribed 'WESTMINSTER // A.D. 171', and shows a portcullis and a three-feathered crest which is similar to the heraldic badge of the Prince of Wales. This plaque was issued by the Westminster Fire Office, which was founded in 1717. The Association was a fire insurance company and joined Alliance in 1906.
