A hoof pad is used to prevent damage, concussion or bruising to the sole of a horse's hoof. This is one of three given to the Museum by the donor. It bears the inscriptions 'Surridges Holdtite Reg Design 699984' and 'Surridges Road Grip Pad Reg Design 699984'.

The donor lived at 'The Forge' in Shutford, Oxfordshire, and he may well have been a farrier and used the gag.
