Hydrometers are instruments for measuring the specific gravity of liquds at a specific temperature. They can also be called 'lactometers', which are hydrometers used specifically for milk. This hydrometer is part of a collection acquired from the University of Reading's Department of Food Science Processing Laboratories. It has a narrown bulb which is stained purple. It is used for measuring specific gravity at 60° F, on a scale of 0-100 (unites not stated and divisions of scale spreading out at the top) in dimensions of one.
