  • Description
An arm badge for the National Farmers' Union, which probably dates from the 1950s. Found in a box in a house in Eastbourne.
This is an arm badge for the National Farmers' Union, which probably dates from the 1950s. It consists of a blue enamel badge showing a silver shield and 'NFU' in read. A two-piece leather strap fits through slots in either side of the badge, to allow it to be worn on the arm. The back of the badge is stamped 'No 12'. It would have been worn by an NFU representative at, for example, the Union's stand at an Agricultural Show. It was originally found in a box in a house in Eastbourne.

  • Label Text
Society armband, 1950s. This badge features the initials of the National Farmers' Union. Armbands like these would have been worn at agricultural shows and exhibitions. They served to give the Union a modern corporate image. During the Second World War it had been involved in plough-up campaigns and worked alongside 'War Ags'. Post-war it championed price guarantees and took the lead on an International Federation of Agricultural Producers. MERL 2009/58.
