  • Archival history
MERL Deposit Form – 're Worthington farm details // ... The attached is, obviously, part of a cotton sack which was used at the time (wartime/shortly after '45?) for the packaging + supply of poultry meal (+ possibly also pig meal). // However, the reason I have included it is of more sociological significance: scouting of its reverse side will indicate the presence of feather residues. // My mother used to cut up the feed sacks after washing them, in order to fabricate various household items - in this case, a cushion cover. I also recall them being used to cover the metal spring structure of bed frames, to prevent wear on the underside of mattresses. // The rosettes are a record of success at the Ellingham Show (+ possibly others!) exhibiting the best individuals in the shorthorn dairy herd. // My father, Thomas Worthington, originated in the Mere + Kuntsford, Cheshire.'
