This bucket milking machine was made by R. A. Lister of Dursley, in 1915. It is formed of twelve parts:
* the bucket or can (object 91/23/1)
* the bucket lid, with a rubber seal and a tap with a glass window
* four teat cups with rubber linings
* three short rubber 'hases' which attach the teat cups to the claw
* claw to which the teat rubbers would be attached
* the pulsator
* a vacuum tap
This machine was used at Ballard's Farm, in Edington. The farm adopted machine milking during the First World War but abandoned it soon afterwards. A new system was installed in the 1930s.
Physical description
1 milking machine: metal: fair condition; incomplete91/23/1 Bucket or can for the machine; 91/23/2 Lid for the bucket (rubber seal and glass window top); 91/23/3-6 Four teat cups with rubber linings; 91/23/7-9 Three short rubber hoses (1 missing); 91/23/10 Thule claw to which the rubber teats would be attached. The long hoses connecting claw to the can are missing; 91/23/11 Pulsator (attaches to top of can); 91/23/12 Vacuum top (Lister's patent) fixes to vacuum pipes. The support for the teats and hoses when not in use is missing

The accession record notes: "The farm adopted machine milking during the 1st World War but abandoned it soon afterwards. A new system was installed in the 1930's."
