  • Label Text
Model combine harvester, 1950s. This model was used as a teaching aid in the Agricultural Engineering Department, University of Reading. The paintwork suggests it was modelled on the Massey-Ferguson ‘780’. Produced from 1953 to 1962, this machine became emblematic of post-war agricultural change, in particular the stark increase in mechanised farming. The number of combines in England and Wales rose from 10,000 in 1950 to 50,000 in 1960. MERL 90/4.
