  • Description
    A 'Quick Cooker' bowl for cooking or re-heating food over water, dating from 1911. It consists of a white-glazed ceramic bowl with a central funnel and lid. Instructions on how to use the Quick Cooker and other information are printed in green on the lid and the bowl. The bowl was made by Grimwade Ltd. of Winton Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, and had several patents.

    1 bowl with lid: white glazed pottery; good conditionVariety of inscriptions:- [on lid]: 'The "Quick-Cooker" Bowl, Grimwade's Patent No. 12835/09, cooks the contents quickly from centre to circumference, Patent No. 15043/09, 12161/11, made in England'; 'Instructions - after filling and before putting cover on place a small piece of pastry or dough in hollow here [arrow pointing to top of funnel]. This forms a watertight seal for lid when tied round with string. A roll of soft bread put in the groove will serve equally well'; 'no pudding cloth required, approximate capacity 1 1/2 pints'; 'inside bowl & cover should be well greased, tie up like this [diagram], 6 inch size'; [on exterior of bowl]: The "Quick-Cooker", gold medal - London 1911, excellent for stews of all kinds, meat can be kept hot for hours without over-cooking or getting dry'; [interior]: For light puddings do not fill above this line. The pudding then has room to expand. Water in saucepan should also be below this level'; further inscriptions can be found on underside of lid, giving names of other Grimwade pottery wares.
