This spill plane was made by the donor in 1940 and was copied from an earlier example. It consists of a wooden block with a vertical cutter set at an angle and is inscribed 'S.H.Rose'. There are eleven curled spills with the plane.

Mr S. H. Rose, the donor, trained as a wheelwright in Bramley, Hampshire. He is connected to the Wigleys of Wigley and Sons, builders in Silchester, Hampshire, through his wife's family (his wife's aunt married a Wigley).
