A metal lactometer, for determing the presence and approximate proportion of added water to milk. It consists of a weight, float and scale, contained in a metal tube. It is inscribed 'The Dairy Supply Co, London W.C. // Temp. 60 FAHT // BARHAMS Per Centage Lactometer // Patent 603'. It was used by the donor's father, a milk seller in Bangor, County Down, in the 1930s.
