Description
This is a packet of black lead wrapped up in paper and enclosed in a white envelope which has the following printed on it: 'Superior blacklead, mix well with turpentine or vinegar'. Black lead was another term for graphite and was used for polishing iron grates and ranges. This packet was given to the donor by the blacksmith in Todmorden, Yorkshire.
