At the top there is a lip for emptying and opposite a tray for the soap. It would appear that the handle is missing deom the top rim. Inside, the base carries the no. '1933' contained in a star // Associated information: This wash tub and posser belonged to the donor's mother Mrs Gilbert Smith who lived in Nelson Lancs. She married about 1913, before the 1st world war and the donor reckons it was then that she bought these two items. She had a wash house and a helper, a boiler for hot water and a mangle which had been fitted/ adapted to work electrically. The mangle was so big and powerful, the sheets didn't need ironing. Mrs Smith used this till 1950 when she had a seisure; she then bought an electrical washing machine.'
