Tin inscribed: "Templer's Plumber's Black. For all wiped joints on lead, brass and chronium….etc. a W. G. Templer Product etc.'.
This is plumber's black, contained in a tin with the following inscription, "Templer's Plumber's Black (moist cake). For all wiped joints on lead, brass and chronium does not flake or rub off under heat a W. G. Templer Product Apply with a brush moistening the cake before use'. Used by a plumber formerly employed by the university (now retired). Used for masking joints on lead pipes to make a neat finish, not used much these days as pipes are mainly made of copper.
