Description
This is one of two steel prong attachments for Planet Junior Cultivator (76/212/1), used for lifting leaves. This cultivator was manufactured by S. L. Allen & Company, Fifth Street and Glenwood Avenue, Philadelphia 40, Pensylvania, USA. Since 1871, Planet Junior’s speciality has been vegetable growing tool. Outstanding among Planet Junior products are Planetized Steels. This ‘planetizing’ is a series of processes, hardening and tempering processes, which produces a steel of hard weaving qualities. Three variations of the double wheel Planet Jr hoe are found in the 1944 catalogue, each with the same frame but with different sets of attachments. This hoe is therefore type no. 11. This hoe was originally purchased in a sale and given to Mr Clark, the donor.
