  • Description
    This hand drag rake was used to rake up hay in hilly fields in Durham county, where it was too difficult to use an ordinary rake. It was bought by the donor's father, and was thought to be around 150 years old in 1952.

    MERL miscellaneous note – 'The hand drag rake was bought by my father some 30 yers ago (the rake then being very old) at a farm sale, and I think that it was used in the Dales of Durham County for raking up hay in the very hilly fields where it was very difficult to rake with an ordinary rake'., MERL conservation record - 'Dated 30.6.55'
