This pipe cleaning rack was used for holding long 'churchwarden' pipes, either when they were not in use or when they were placed for cleaning in the fire or oven. It was used either standing in an oven or hanging over a fire with pipes inside. This one is quite plain, though some racks which were stood on tables were very ornamental. It is made of iron.
