A rotary quern consisting of two circular stones.Possibly used latterly for grinding paint as it has paint marks on it. This is a rotary quern consisting of two circular stones. The lower one has the flat grinding surface scored and a channel for the flour to run around. The top stone fits into a spindle and into the lower stone. It has a hole through the middle where the grain would be put in. There is no handle and no evidence of how one would have been attached. The stone from which the quern is made looks like a conglomerate. It has been suggested that this quern may have been used latterly for grinding paint as it has paint marks on it.
