  • Description
    The brace is a boring tool. This brace is made of ebony and brass, and consists of a wooden semicircle fixed to a large revolving button at one end and a square socket for holding the blade or bit at the other. The brace is inscribed 'James Howarth Corporate // Mark // Sheffield // Broom Spring Works'. It belonged to Mr Greenwood, a master craftsman in the Stonor-Hambleden area on the Oxfordshire-Buckinghamshire border. The donor worked with Mr Greenwood's son, who was also a craftsman.
