This is a hanger ratchet. It was designed for use in a hearth.
This is a hanger ratchet. Both the ratched at the upright are hooked at their extreme ends. They are joined by a ring on the ratchet through which the upright slides. There is a loop suspended from a knob at one end of the upright which catches the ratchet teeth to fix the hanger in the desired position. The ratchet has ten teeth. It was designed for use in a hearth.
