  • Description
This straw dolly, in the shape of a bird table, was made by Fred Mizen at Great Bardfield for the Festival of Britain. It is made almost entirely of straw, with some sections strengthened by wire. The central pole is made of a bunch of straw covered by a spiral plait. The table is constructed around it with eight pieces of wire running out from the centre to make an octagonal shape. Pipes of straw fill the gaps between the wires and the corners are decorated with blue ribbon. The table is supported by four lengths of spiral plait, and there is a hook at each end of the pole, also made of straw.
