  • Archival history
MERL 'Catalogue index' card – ‘… // DATE ACQUIRED: // GROUP: // NEGATIVE: // PERIOD: // PLACE OF ORIGIN: // NUMBER: // DESCRIPTION: …‘ It is a very good example of the development in straw dollies of recent years (1952). Dollies are no longer mounted on ricks or thatched cottages, and are made as curiosities to be hung up in houses and inns as examples of an old craft. The shapes have changed from the traditional 'necks', 'kern babies' and cocks, to elaborate designs such as this scythe. //
