  • Description
    Plaque indicating insurance against fire. Issued by Birmingham Fire Office Company, founded 1805, which joined Lancashire 1867.
    Fire insurance plaques are embossed metal signs, which were placed on the front of houses indicating they were insured against fire. This plaque was issued by Birmingham Fire Office Company, which was founded in 1805. The Association was a fire insurance company and joined Lancashire in 1867. This plaque, in black and gold, shows a fireman standing in front of a manual fire engine, with “BIRMINGHAM” impressed on a panel below
