MERL ‘History Artefacts’ cards - ‘ COOLER // MARKETING- DAIRY PRODUCE- MILK // Inscription: A. DYMOND, COMBEST NICHOLAS, PATENT APPLIED FOR // Source: N. C. Scriven, Horton, Somerset // Description: One of the first ‘in churn’ coolers to be made. It consists of a central hollow column with four galvanised copper valves. This joins onto a corner lid and ring which fit over the neck of the milk churn. Above this is a cone for pouring water into the cooler. Water would then run into the central column and thence into the valves. It would then pour out of slits on top of the lid and run down the sides of the churn // Use: For cooling milk whilst in the churn.’
