    Nothing is known of the origin of this wrought iron two-pronged turnip peck head which is missing its wooden handle. Turnip pecks were used for pulling up what was left of turnips after sheep had been fed on them.

    MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This is a particularly large turnip peck head, used for pulling up turnips after sheep had eaten the tops. It is made of wrought iron and has two prongs. The vertical measurement is 8.5 inches, and the prongs are 6.75 inches long. The wooden handle is missing. // See also 51/233M.', No Lavinia Smith No. recorded.
