  • Physical description
1 mole trap: metal [steel]; good condition......and the hoops are thus thrust clear of the bottom sheet. A spring clip holds A and D in position. The trap is then so placed that the loops protrude into a mole's main run. When the mole touches the spring clip, A is released, and the animal is caught up against it by the hoops: The trap is marked: 'Griffith Climax'
  • Archival history
MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This is a steel trap which works on the same principle as the earlier wooden mole trap, that is, when the mole touches a spring it is caught between two hoops at either end of the trap. It consists of a sheet of metal A, through which are slotted two metal hoops, B & C, attached to a parallel piece of metal, D. A and D can be held tightly together by presure [sic] on the handle which connects them, and the hoops are thus thrust clear of the bottom sheet. A spring clip holds A and D in position. The trap is then so placed that the loops protrude into the mole’s main run. When the mole touched the spring clip, A is released, and the animal is caught up against it by the hoops. // This trap is marked ‘Griffith Climax’ and is probably not very old. It measures 5.75 inches in length. See 51/251 M'
