  • Description
    This wrought iron toaster was for toasting bacon in a fire with a grate. The toaster was hung from the fire bar by the large hook at the end. The bacon was hung from the four hooks, which can be moved along the main rod so that the bacon could be taken off without removing the toaster from the grate.

    MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This type of toaster was designed for used before a fire with a grate. The large hook at one end was supported by the fire bar. This particular toaster was meant for bacon. The bacon was hung on four hooks, which can be moved up and down the main rod, so that the food could be taken off without removing the toaster from the grate. // The toaster is quite plain in construction and is made of wrought iron.
