    MERL 'Handwritten catalogue' form – 'STADDLE STONES // granite post + "quoits" of slate. Known also in Cornwall as "mowstead post"., MERL miscellaneous note - 'Staddles // Before present Dutch Barn the ricks were built on 'mowstead posts'. Stone blocks about 5' long (some ten) sunk two feet or more into ground + capped with slate quoits - 18" in diam with 6" diam hole at centre.'
