Snuffers used for trimming the wicks of candles in a scissor action. From a farmhouse in Dichling, East Sussex.
Snuffers were used for putting out and trimming the wicks of candles in the same operation in action similar to that of a pair of scissors. These iron snuffers were for ordinary farmhouse use and came from Ditchling in East Sussex. They show signs of being badly rusted at some stage.
