Description
A side rein, or 'check rein', used to keep the horse steady, rather than driving it.
A side rein, or 'check rein', is used to keep the horse steady, rather than for driving it, and is fastened by its chain to the neck rein and by its buckle to the crupper strap, the part of the horse's harness which holds the saddle in place. The leather on this side rein is decorated with round studs set at regular intervals.

It is not used for driving the horse but helps to keep him steady. An alternative name is CHECK REIN. // This rein has a chain of 20.5 inches, ending in a spring catch.
