This is a saw edged sickle, used for harvesting crops by hand. The blade is stamped with the name W. Fox Patent and the wooden handle is turned. It was given to Lavinia Smith by Henry Tyrrell of Harwell, Oxfordshire.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This sickle was given to Miss Smith by Mr. Henry Tyrrell of Harwell (Berks). // It is stamped on the blade with the name W. Fox Patent. The saw edge is still visible on the blade, which measures 21 inches in length. The wooden handle measures 5.5 inches in length and is turned.
