Description
Painted silk banner of the Ancient Order of Foresters. Adam and Eve on one side and a graveyard scene on the other side. Circa 1880s.
This is a large silk religious banner of the Ancient Order of Foresters. It is red in colour, with brown edges. Cupids, fruit and other decorations surround the pictures, of Adam and Eve on one side and a graveyard scene on the other side. The inscriptions read: Side 1: 'THOU HAST EATEN OF THE TREE WHEREOF I COMMANDED THAT THOU SHOULDST NOT EAT' and side 2: 'WE BID THE WIDOW CEASE TO MOURN, THE ORPHAN CEASE TO CRY.' It is thought to date from the 1880s.
