    This is a singeing lamp, a brass hand tool used to trim horse's hair, used as an alternative to clippers. It consists of a brass handle and flat semi-circular head, with a long wick along the top. This singeing lamp was used used at Prospect House, Hamsterley, in County Durham, where carriage horses were kept until 1914.
