Archival history
Letter, Dr Avitsur to Mr Jewell, 12th October 1960 - 'The plough which I first asked to be prepared, proved to be defective, so that I had to order another one. // A few days ago I had occasion to go to the Galilean village Mai'lya, and received the plough...', Letter, Dr Avitsur to Mr Jewell, 7th June 1960 - 'I shall gladly try to get a traditional "Arabic" plough for your Museum, but this will not be so easy. Thsee ploughs can be bought ready made in Arab villages, but are "corrupted" with modern improvements (joined with iron bolts and screws). // During my next visits in Galilee I hope to find a used old-fashioned plough and exchange it for a new one - or else I shall order a special plough in the "good old style" from a village carpenter.', Letter, Mr Jewell to Dr Avitsur, 20th May, 1960 - 'I heard from Mr Salaman this morning and he has told me that you have very kindly offered to send us a typical Arab plough when the opportunity occurs. I should be very pleased to have one of these, and it will be most useful for demonstrating the history of the plough from its earliest beginnings.'
