James is an Associate Director in Technical Services and has worked at the University of Reading for over 20 years. He is passionate about employee voice and joined the University of Reading Staff Forum at its inception as an Employer Representative. As the Forum developed, he stood as an Employee Representative and was elected as Co-Chair. During his time in the Staff Forum, he focused upon promoting the importance and value of the Forum across the University and started regular lunchtime engagement sessions. James oversaw the “Get Together” events where colleagues came from all parts of the University to share and connect.
In 2019 James stood for election as the first Professional Services Member of University Council. His manifesto clearly stated that he would “advocate for Professional Services as an equally important and valued group within the University community”.
James is a member of the Appointments and Governance Sub-Committee. His contributions have included writing a paper to Council to recognise and include regular updates from members of Professional Services and was part of a working group to review the effectiveness of Council against the CUC code. James believes these have been important steps in how the University, through Council, perceives Professional Services.
