‘The MERL are experts at making arts and culture fit the needs of everyone.’

Michelle Berry, Wellbeing Team, Reading Borough Council

As a museum of rural history situated within the heart of the town of Reading, The MERL is a proud part of far-reaching and diverse communities which bridge both town and country.

We have long worked with people both locally and nationally, and we deepened this involvement still further through our Heritage Lottery-funded ‘Our Country Lives’ project. Our community programmes are co-designed with community partners, demonstrating the relevance of our collections to many different stakeholders, offering participatory opportunities which we seek to be person-centred, engaging and inspiring.
