Enhance your understanding of education and teaching with our Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Reflective Practice) top-up course.
Offered by the University of Reading’s Institute of Education, this programme is designed for both primary and secondary school teachers who already hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or are working towards the qualification.
You’ll explore how evidence-based research can support and inform future practice through a hybrid mix of live online group tutorials, individual tutorials and pre-recorded material.
You will complete two assignments over the course of your studies. One addresses a whole-school issue with a focus on effective behaviour management for learning, the use of oracy in the classroom, and creating an inclusive classroom environment. The other will involve an action research project designed to develop an aspect of your classroom practice. Both assignments will give you credits that can be used towards a master’s in Education.
At the Institute of Education, teaching is tailored to suit your individual needs. The structure of our postgraduate courses gives you the opportunity to create your own tailor-made course, shaping our programme to suit your learning requirements and personal career aspirations.
Our teaching environment
Learn from internationally or nationally renowned experts and tutors, whose research regularly has a direct impact on school curricula and learning techniques — both in the UK and abroad. As experts in their fields, their research also directly informs the focus and content of your course. 98% of our research is of international standing (REF 2021, combining 4*, 3* and 2* submissions – Education).
Your learning experience will be interactive, experiential and innovative. We utilise a wide variety of technologies to enhance your studies, including presentation tools, interactive whiteboards, mixed media, social media, and mobile technologies in teaching, and screen capture in assessment.
Facilities
The Institute of Education is based on our historic London Road campus, which has undergone a £3m refurbishment of the classical Oxford-cloistered quadrangle to create a dedicated world-class education centre.
We’ve created custom-built spaces for the teaching of specialist subjects, including:
- modern laboratories
- musical studios, including an electronic drum kit room and a recording studio
- well-equipped art studios and facilities for the practise of work in drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed media
- studios for wet photography and printmaking, including silk screen.
You’ll have access to the University of Reading’s online resources, including publications and books. You will also benefit from academic support from our Student Support Services.
Alongside these fantastic facilities, you will also find places to eat and drink, as well as plenty of green space to relax in.
The Learning Hub
The Learnign Hub houses an incredible collection of teaching and research resources and is a real treasure trove for teachers and researchers. It contains an extensive selection of teaching aids for loan or reference, from big books to puppets. A printing and binding facility, and technical equipment library are also available for your use.
