International Foundation Programme (IFP)
COVID-19 update
Find out about how we'll be delivering our courses in 2020.
Want to study at a British university but don't have the correct qualifications for direct entry? The International Foundation Programme (IFP) at the University of Reading is an intensive access course with a long established reputation for academic excellence and student support. It provides access to almost all* University of Reading undergraduate degrees as well as degrees at many other leading UK universities. Select “CHOOSE A SUBJECT” above for the list of University of Reading undergraduate degrees.
Our IFP will give you the academic training, language, skills and confidence you need for undergraduate study in Britain. If you choose to continue your studies at Reading after successfully completing the IFP, you will be guaranteed a place here on your chosen undergraduate course to begin September of the same year, as long as you have met the requirements for entry to the degree programme**.
The IFP is an intensive access programme that gives students from a wide range of educational and cultural backgrounds the opportunity to gain an academic qualification that is universally recognised and accepted. The University of Reading has taught the IFP for more than 35 years and thousands of students have successfully progressed to degrees both here and at other universities. We have an international reputation for excellence, both in our teaching and for the support we give our students. The IFP is subject to the same assessment procedures as the rest of the University and your tutors are the same academic staff who teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. There are four entry points in the year, depending on your academic and English language levels, and which subjects you would like to study.
We recognise that you may be a long way from home and in a completely new environment, so we assign you an academic tutor to help support and guide you through your studies. There are also social activities to take part in and new friends to meet. On the annual IFP Away Day, you will visit an outdoor activity centre where you will have the chance to put your problem-solving, communication and team-building skills to the test while trying out new activities such as climbing, archery and rowing.
As well as improving your knowledge and skills, the IFP aims to familiarise you with life at university; you will have access to all the academic, welfare, social and sports facilities on offer, and if you are 17 or older you will be eligible for accommodation on our beautiful award-winning campus.

*All University of Reading degrees can be accessed from the IFP except those in Art, Communication and Design, where foundation access is through ONCAMPUS Reading.
