School Director of Teaching and Learning

Active Projects:
I became School Director of Teaching and Learning for the International Study and Language Institute in August 2019. In this leadership role I am responsible for the quality assurance of the School's credit bearing programmes. I am also responsible for the development of ISLI's credit bearing provision to support global competencies and the development of global graduate attributes and I oversee the current provision. I convene Modern Britain 2

I am also involved in the development of the integrated foundation-year, during the Director of Foundation-Year Studies' maternity leave.

My special interests are inclusive pedagogies, I coordinate the Inclusive Language Teaching Special Interest Group; and assessment. Prior to becoming SDTL, I was the IWLP Assessment Coordinator and I have led projects to enhance the alignment between teaching and assessment and encourage the use of item analysis tools for multiple choice tests.

I am an External Examiner for the 'University Wide Language Programme' at Newcastle University.

Bio:

I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and between 2014 and 2019 I was a Teaching and Learning coordinator on the Institution-Wide Language Programme with responsibility for assessment and the strategic development and management of the Italian provision. Between 2013 and 2018 I was the School's Disability Rep, and in 2018-2019 I was an Academic Secondee on the Electronic Management of Assessment Project.

I bring a variety of skills acquired in a diverse career history spanning IT and HR, where I was Chartered Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development.

My education is also rather eclectic: I am a graduate of the University of Birmingham (B.Soc.Sc. International Studies and Politics); the University of Sunderland (PGC HR Management); and the University of Reading (PGC Academic Practice), I am a qualified Teacher of English as a Foreign Language (CELTA).

I enjoy reading, travelling and cooking and my passion I Ballet.
