Mrs Amanda Fava-Verde
Job Title:

I am the Programme Director for the International Foundation Programme.

Active Projects:
I am responsible for the operational management of the International Foundation Programme, for managing student welfare and for contributing to the strategic development of the Programme within the wider University context and overseas. I am also Convenor for the International English module.

I began teaching English in France, to professionals in the commercial sector before moving to the UK Further and Higher Education sectors. I completed an MA in Applied Linguistics at the University of Reading in 2004 and began teaching Academic English and Study Skills to international students on the Pre-sessional English and International Foundation Programmes. My area of expertise is English for Academic Purposes with research interests relating specifically to Second Language Academic Writing and Online Language Learning. I have a keen interest in the acculturation of international students and their experiences adjusting to Higher Education in the UK. For the last four years, I held the post of School Senior Tutor.

I am an External Examiner for IFCELS English Language and Academic Studies Programme at SOAS, University of London, and I am also University of Reading Academic Representative on the Steering Committee of the University Pathway Alliance (UPA). Formerly Editor of InForm, the sector-wide journal for IFP professionals, I remain on the editorial board.

A few personal comments:
I enjoy reading, cooking, dance, travel and spending time with my family - preferably all in combination. A language lover, I am fluent in French and not at all fluent in Mandarin which I took up only recently.
