PREBIOTIC

Recruitment is closed for this study

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of different non-digestible food on the composition of the gut bacteria in healthy adults.

The human gut contains numerous bacteria some of which are beneficial to human health ('good bacteria') and produce beneficial substances that the human body can use. Bacterial imbalance, can be considered a cause or consequence of several gastrointestinal (GI) disorders. Diarrhoea, constipation, abdominal pain, flatulence and bloating are all symptoms that indicate a disturbance in the gastrointestinal tract with potential growth of 'bad bacteria' that can harm the gut.

This study is being carried out to establish the effect of three Bimuno galacto-oligosaccharide (B-GOS) products, on gut bacterial composition.

The study will last 3 weeks. Over the course of the study, you will be asked to visit Reading University on two separate occasions over 3 weeks, following the screening period.
