Silica nanoparticles

This image shows silica nanoparticles that were attempted to be templated using the phase behaviour of amphiphilic polymer molecules into a wide variety of topographies. This project involved the use of three different types of polymers to mediate the assembly of the nanoparticles into vesicles, which could find use in drug delivery or catalysis, due to the very large surface areas. This polymer gave a very different image as the nanoparticles coated evenly the whole area of the holey carbon grid, potentially indicating their small size and regularity. This work was undertaken by James Barnett under the supervision of Prof. Ian Hamley.
