3D Bilayer graphene

This is a high resolution TEM image (with false colour) of a new carbon material known as 'three-dimensional bilayer graphene'. The image was recorded on EMLab's JEOL 2010 TEM. This new form of carbon, discovered by Peter Harris, contains many unusual features, such as carbon nanotubes seamlessly joined to larger graphene regions. A paper describing these junctions, by Peter and colleagues from Curtin University, Perth, Australia, has recently been accepted by the high-profile journal Nanoscale.
