The donor's family is a renowned family of sheep breeders, especially Valentine Barford of Foscote, co. Northampton (1786-1864), who popularised the "in and in" system. The account book refers to John Barford (1838-1911), a cousin of Valentine Barford, who took the farm at Fawcett, between 1857 and 1858 Farm size etc. About 400 acres; heavy clay; tenant to Lord Southampton
