The donor's family were for some time established farmers in co. Huntingdon and co. Leicester. At the turn of the century they moved to co. Cambridge, where the donor's father occupied a farm at Cottenham until his removal in 1918 to Horningsea. The records which survive relate chiefly to Northfields Farm.
