J.L. Poole, the donor's father, served as farm bailiff at Langford Hall, Newark, co. Nottingham to Sir C.H. Seely before taking over Bank Farm. Later he bought Hill Farm and his eldest son (brother of the donor) became tenant of Park Farm. In 1942, Hill Farm was sold to Messrs Boots (Chemists)
