DEANE PLACE FARM : WARGRAVE : CO BERKS
Riferimento
FR BER 2
Data
1930-1961
Creatore
The Fleming family moved from East Kilbride, near Glasgow, to Wargrave in 1903. In Scotland, they had practised dairy farming on 150-200 acres, but came south to take up arable farming. In 1948, however, they re- introduced cows. This contradicts to some extent the usual practise of Scottish immigrants, who tended to bring livestock with them. On Lady Day 1966, W. Fleming, having been given notice to quit by a new owner-occupier landlord, left Deane Place Farm and retired to Devon
Farm size etc: 320 acres; chalky soils, deep but flinty; tenant to Col. Micklem up to 1964
